The project dealt with the reuse and refurbishment of the interior space of the building, which houses the Cultural Center of the Metropolis of Arta, as well as interventions on the building’s shell and its surrounding space. The new uses scheme concerned a multiple purpose - events venue at the ground floor, while at the upper floors will host office spaces, teaching rooms, recreational and auxiliary areas.

The concept was based on the exploitation of the abundant natural light, which thanks to the building’s orientation, provides favourable conditions for learning. The flooring materials, the colour palette and the minimal furniture, contributed to the creation of flexible and multi functional educational and administrative units. The proposal for the events venue resolved issues of optical and acoustic nature, with the integration of innovative structural elements and coverings. The lighting design was of great importance, as in the common spaces there were requirements for a polymorphic infrastructure for the hosting of a variety of activities and uses.

The exterior morphology of the building was handled with respect to the existing geometry, while for the design of the surrounding open air space, the materials chosen were of local origin, as an architectural manipulation towards the incorporation into the urban landscape of the larger area.
